Possible collaboration between IIT-Madras and NUS

Stemming from networking and discussions held during the recently concluded CPRsouth4 conference, possibilities of a double PhD in Engineering and Social Sciences between Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) and National University of Singapore (NUS) are being explored. The discussion is spear headed by Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala and Dr. Aarti Kawlra of the Department Electrical Engineering at IIT-M and Prof. Millie Rivera, the chair of the Communications and New Media Programme at NUS.

PhD and DBA Opportunities, Centre for Development Informatics (CDI), University of Manchester

The Centre for Development Informatics (CDI) at the University of Manchester is seeking high-quality PhD and DBA candidates to research topics on ICTs/information systems and socio-economic development.  Some scholarships are available for those starting in September 2010; deadline dates vary but many require application before end February or end March 2010.

The CDI is seeking candidates typically  those with a distinction-level Masters degree from an internationally-recognised university in an appropriate topic (which includes but is not limited to information systems, management, or development); good English skills; and a relevant topic for study backed by a proposal that demonstrates an ability to work with academic theory.

PhD fellowships scheme - Hong Kong Baptist Univeristy

PhD fellowship scheme has been initiated at the Hong Kong Baptist University by the Research Grants Council (RGC) in support of the Hong Kong Government’s strategic move. The objective of the Scheme is to enhance the research environment in Hong Kong by attracting the best and brightest PhD students from around the world to pursue their studies and research work in Hong Kong.

PhD summer school, Center for Communication, Media and Information technologies (CMI), 23-28 August 2009, Skagen, Denmark

The topic of the 2009 PhD summer school is Next Generation Mobile Media – the development of new converged text, audio, and video media on mobile and wireless platforms. The summer school is concerned with the new and upcoming mobile and wireless technology platforms and service architectures as well as the content and communications delivered and facilitated.

Technology developments as well as the market and policy aspects of Next Generation Mobile Media are discussed. This includes user requirements, business models, market developments, and the regulatory framework for network development and content delivery. Emphasis is on the newest and upcoming developments in the field including social networking on mobile and wireless platforms.
