Possible collaboration between IIT-Madras and NUS

Stemming from networking and discussions held during the recently concluded CPRsouth4 conference, possibilities of a double PhD in Engineering and Social Sciences between Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) and National University of Singapore (NUS) are being explored. The discussion is spear headed by Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala and Dr. Aarti Kawlra of the Department Electrical Engineering at IIT-M and Prof. Millie Rivera, the chair of the Communications and New Media Programme at NUS.

If successful it may lead to a graduate student exchange between IIT-M and NUS. The engineering students interested in new media may be able to spend a semester in the Communications and New Media programme at NUS. In the same manner, students from the New Media programme may get the opportunity to work a project at the Rural Technology and Business Incubator (RTBI) of IIT-M.

Creation of new networks and the strengthening of the existing networks is an outcome we hope to facilitate through CPRsouth. In Millie’s own words, “……one more good thing CPR has done–connect alike minds”
