Prof. Ledivina V. Carino (1942 – 2009)

After a brave battle with cancer, Prof. Ledivina V. Carino, a founding Board Member and 1st alternate chair of CPRsouth passed away on 12 June 2009 in Manila, Philippines.

She was a Professor of Public Administration, at the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) of the University of the Philippines, Diliman. Her tireless efforts ensured a successful inaugural CPRsouth conference in Manila, Philippines in January 2007.

In addition to her academic commitments, she was the vice president of the Executive Council, National Academy of Science and Technology and the chair of the Technical Panel for Public Administration, Commission on Higher Education, Phillipines since 2005. She was also a Member of the International Advisory Committee, Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University since 2003.

Prof Carino held the distinction of being the youngest and one of only eighteen ever to be appointed University Professor, the highest academic rank in the University of the Philippines.

She will be dearly missed by her colleagues and students.
